Fishermen, particularly surf and pier anglers, play the role of the primary stakeholders against beach replenishment. Fishermen provide perspectives based primarily on anecdotal science, with some ideas supported by primary literature as well. Anecdotal science is the concept of using personal first hand experience- as opposed to professional literature- to better understand an idea. Information on the major reasons that anglers oppose beach replenishment can be found below.
Check out the Shark River Surf Anglers letter to the Army Corps of Engineers in protest to beach replenishment here. The Shark River Surf Anglers are a fishing club based out of Belmar, New Jersey. Captain John McMurray also provided a detailed monolog expressing the opinions of surf fishermen on beach replenishment in a section of the Flyfishing in Saltwaters magazine.
